From the recording Discombobulated
Buy Some Time was written about a friend dying from cancer. For a year we had lunch or coffee every week or two as I watched the shadow of his inevitable mortality grow longer and darker as he dealt with it. In the end, I just couldn't find the words to complete the third verse so took the idler's way out and repeated the first verse. By doing this I now feel I've let my friend down and this is something I regret but I will find the words to finish it.
Lyrics
Buy some time, buy a million hours
Swear an oath, to life
Buy a lie, buy a million suns
Keeping me warm, alive
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Paid a price, paid for what I’ve done
Tell me what, I’ve done
Take my wife, take my children too
I’d sell my soul, for change
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
I'd trade time for time
Buy some time, buy a million hours
Swear an oath, to life
Buy a lie, buy a million suns
Keeping me warm, alive
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
